You may easily learn how to calibrate your thermometer and become a better cook as a result. but first, what is a thermometer, and what is it used for? A thermometer is a tool for checking the exact internal temperature of the meat. So, in this blog, I’m going to show you the step by step to calibrate your thermometer and how to check your thermometer if it is reading correctly.

How to Check your Thermometer if it is reading correctly

Step 1

Prepare a pot of water in a deep pot and set the heat to medium.

Step 2

Drop a calibrated thermometer into the water while it’s boiling to get an accurate reading.

Step 3

After 30 seconds, or when the temperature has stabilized, place the thermometer you are calibrating and take a reading. and make sure that both thermometers must not touch the bottom of the pot.

Step 4

Start to compare the reading of both thermometers ideally 212F (100C) if your thermometer reading is not the same as the calibrated thermometer you must start calibrating it.

Step 1

Put ice cubes in the glass, but make sure there’s room for the thermometer.

Step 2

To a glass of ice, add water and stir.

Step 3

Without reaching the bottom of the glass, submerge the thermometer until the immersion mark is reached. It’s best to hold off for at least 30 seconds, or until the temperature stays constant.

Step 4

Read your temperature and make sure the temperature reaches 32F (0C) and that is the sign that your thermometer is calibrated.

Always calibrate your thermometer before and after use so that you will always get a proper reading and your cooking will not be ruined by wrong reading.
